This month's MINDSET MOVIE is The Ice Storm, based on the 1994 novel by Rick Moody. It's a moving and sometimes hilarious study of relations between parents and children during the 1970s in suburban Connecticut. This was a confusing time in American life, and The Ice Storm observes it closely. While the self-absorbed parents are negotiating their ways through the sexual revolution, the children are experimenting too--but are generally left to fend for themselves. Though the film proceeds in comedy, it ends in tragedy. Here's one of its most famous scenes:
